The Super Kids, a group of 13 students from Garfield High School committed to Community Service, Education and Wellness.
SAI is assisting these students in their scholarship fundraising efforts by auctioning art at the East LA Civic Center Farmers Market on Saturdays starting November 15, 2014 from 9 AM - 1 PM
Last week I met with a longtime friend and partner Guadalupe and Ruben Bojorquez from Casa Cultural Saybrook Park, an Art organization and nonprofit sponsored by East LA County Parks & Recreations and Supervisor Gloria Molina. I was promoting the SAI's Scholarships and the event coming up on November 2014 to benefit our scholarsphip fund.
Ruben metioned that the organization sounded familiar. After a few minutes he asked if at one time we had a campus in Gardena. I replied, "yes!"
It turned out he had attended the school along with his brother Roberto Bojorquez, who has since passed away. He said that he knew I worked for SAI but it couldn't possibly be the same school he attended back in 1958. The campus had closed in the 80's and since the organization founded 1909, couldn't possibly still be around.
Below is a certificate and picture of Roberto Bojorquez.
